Armik Aghakhani: Leading With Discipline and Purpose
Industry Expert & Contributor

In finance, small details carry real weight. One missed line. One rushed decision. The impact can spread fast.
That reality shaped how Armik Aghakhani built his career.
As Managing Partner of Chartered International LLP in Beverly Hills, Armik works in a field where precision is expected. But his reputation is not built on technical skill alone. It comes from how he approaches problems, leads people, and stays consistent over time.
“People think pressure is the hardest part,” he says. “It’s not. The hardest part is staying disciplined when things get busy.”
Early Career and Education: Building a Strong Foundation
Armik grew up in Los Angeles. From an early age, he was interested in structure. He liked understanding how systems worked and why rules mattered.
“That’s what pulled me toward accounting,” he says. “There’s logic to it, but you still have to think.”
He studied at UCLA and later attended Washington School of Law. That combination shaped how he sees problems. Not just as numbers, but as situations with context.
Early in his career, he worked at PwC and later at Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman. These firms exposed him to complex work and high expectations.
“You learn quickly in those environments,” he says. “There’s no room for guessing.”
One moment stayed with him. A file that looked complete had a small mismatch. It was caught late, but just in time.
“That was a turning point,” he says. “It showed me how something small can turn into something big.”
Starting Chartered International LLP
After gaining experience, Armik decided to start his own firm. He did not focus on rapid growth. He focused on consistency.
“I wasn’t trying to build something fast,” he says. “I was trying to build something stable.”
Chartered International LLP began by working with individuals and businesses who needed reliable support. Over time, it expanded to include high-net-worth clients and cases involving international factors.
“Complex situations don’t scare me,” Armik says. “What matters is understanding all the moving parts.”
What Sets His Approach Apart
Armik’s approach is simple. Slow down when it matters. Make sure things are clear.
“If someone walks away confused, we didn’t do our job,” he says.
Many of his clients come to him after dealing with confusion elsewhere. He focuses on reducing that.
“Most people don’t want more information,” he says. “They want clarity.”
That focus has shaped the firm’s reputation. Clients trust the process because they understand it.
Leadership Style and Team Culture
Inside the firm, Armik leads with direct communication. He encourages his team to raise issues early.
“I tell them bad news doesn’t improve with time,” he says. “Speak up as soon as you see something.”
This approach came from experience. Small problems grow when ignored.
He recalls a junior team member who flagged an inconsistency that others had missed.
“It looked minor at first,” he says. “But it turned out to be important. That’s why we encourage people to speak.”
The goal is simple. Catch issues early. Fix them before they grow.
“When people feel comfortable being honest, the work improves,” he adds.
Balancing Complexity With Clarity
Armik works with clients who often face layered situations. Multiple income streams. Cross-border considerations. Changing regulations.
Instead of adding complexity, he simplifies it.
“You don’t solve complex problems by making them harder to understand,” he says. “You break them down.”
This mindset reduces stress for clients. It also reduces mistakes.
“When things are clear, decisions are better,” he explains.
Leadership Beyond the Office
Armik’s work extends beyond business. He supports several charitable initiatives focused on children, youth, and community development.
These include Focus on Children Now, ACOP Youth programmes, and the First Church of the Nazarene. He has also supported ACOP’s “Race for a Cause,” which combines youth mentorship with fundraising.
One project stands out. A sensory classroom for children with autism at a local Armenian school.
“When you see how much that space helps kids focus, it changes how you think about impact,” he says.
He also supports Women in Aviation International, a cause connected to his wife’s career as a pilot.
“You see how few women are in that space,” he says. “Support helps change that.”
A Consistent Approach in a Changing Industry
Finance continues to evolve. Rules change. Expectations increase. Pressure remains.
Armik stays focused on fundamentals.
“Trends change,” he says. “Discipline doesn’t.”
His career reflects that mindset. From early roles to leading his own firm, the approach has stayed consistent.
Pay attention early. Keep things clear. Stay accountable.
What His Career Shows About Leadership
Armik does not describe leadership as a title. He describes it as behaviour.
“Leadership is how you handle things when they don’t go as planned,” he says.
His approach is built on steady habits. Not big moments.
“Most success comes from doing the basics well,” he says.
For Armik Aghakhani, that has meant building a career based on clarity, consistency, and trust.
“People remember how you handled the details,” he says. “That’s what lasts.”
