Comau forms strategic collaborations with key industry players to advance digital additive manufacturing across multiple sectors. These collaborations enable on-demand, efficient, and sustainable production using automation and robotics. Initial collaborators include CEAD, KraussMaffei, Prima Additive, and Titomic, all integrating Comau’s robotic technologies in their systems.

Comau, a global leader in sustainable automation solutions, has established multiple international collaborations to integrate additive manufacturing with advanced automation technologies. The strategic move aims to support various industries, including automotive, aerospace, naval, energy, construction, and microfactories,  by enabling more accessible and flexible on-demand production. The partnerships allow customers to adopt just-in-time production capabilities, optimise material usage, reduce waste, and meet growing demands for sustainable industrial processes.

The collaboration framework brings together Comau’s robotics expertise with the specialist technologies of partner companies, enhancing the capability to deliver consistent, repeatable results in additive manufacturing. This approach supports manufacturers aiming to develop decentralised microfactories and advance reshoring initiatives. The joint efforts reflect a broader industry shift towards smart manufacturing and low-impact solutions that meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.

Comau’s strategy of entering new market sectors to meet the increasing demand for advanced manufacturing technologies is being accelerated through a series of important collaborations with leading partners and customers across various industries. This approach exemplifies our dedication to innovation and marks an important step in our broader journey toward global growth,” says Giacomo Del Panta, Chief Customer Management Officer of Comau.

Collaborative partners and their focus areas

CEAD integrates Comau’s robotic arm technology into its Flexbot system, offering large-format thermoplastic composite 3D printing solutions. CEAD serves global industries with both standard and customised systems that combine additive and subtractive manufacturing techniques. Notably, the company facilitates the 3D printing of large-scale structures, such as boat hulls, and supports decentralised production through microfactories.

KraussMaffei Group brings to the partnership its expertise in plastics and rubber processing. The company’s broad product line includes injection moulding, extrusion, reaction processing machinery, and additive manufacturing. KraussMaffei supports customers with both standardised and bespoke solutions across the entire production chain.

Prima Additive by Sodick contributes industrial systems that incorporate laser-based additive manufacturing technologies. The partnership with Comau focuses on high-speed, fully automated systems, such as a brake disc coating solution that uses dual-layer laser cladding.

Titomic, known for its cold spray additive manufacturing, enables large-scale applications in the aerospace and defence sectors. The company integrates Comau robotics and software into its cold spray systems to offer novel coatings and repair solutions using high-performance materials.
