A study by Slot.Day found that Perplexity AI saw the biggest decline in searches (33%), followed by Chatspot (22%), Gemini and Claude (18%), and ChatGPT (17%). Meanwhile, DeepSeek surged 321% in searches, reshaping AI tool rankings. Qwen2.5 by Alibaba also grew by 49%.
A recent study conducted by Slot.Day analysed user engagement with various AI tools following the release of DeepSeek, ranking them based on the decline in search interest. The study assessed monthly searches, recent developments for each AI tool, and the net worth of their parent companies. Data regarding search volumes and trends was collected using the Google Keyword Planner, while company net worth figures were sourced from Forbes.
While several AI tools have witnessed a decline in search interest, DeepSeek has emerged as the fastest-growing AI tool, experiencing an astonishing 321% increase in search volume. Additionally, Qwen2.5, an AI model developed by Alibaba, has recorded a 49% rise in search queries.
A spokesperson from the Slot.Day commented on the study:
“The AI field is seeing rapid breakthroughs with new models like DeepSeek emerging almost weekly, transforming the industry and affecting even the established leaders. We’re again seeing how open-source AI models reshape the market, become more accessible to developers and researchers worldwide and, potentially, lead to better-performing tools at a fraction of the cost.”
DeepSeek’s rise reshapes AI tool popularity
AI Tool Losing the Most Interest: Perplexity AI
Perplexity AI has faced the most significant decline in user interest following the release of DeepSeek, experiencing a 33% drop in searches over the past month. Despite this decline, Perplexity AI remains the second most-searched AI tool, accumulating over 15 million searches in recent weeks.
Chatspot: The Second-Most Affected AI Tool
Chatspot, a smaller AI tool developed by HubSpot, ranked second in the list of AI tools experiencing a decline in interest. Searches for Chatspot fell by 22%, with only 2,180 searches recorded last month, marking a notable reduction from its previous levels of user engagement.
Gemini and Claude: Third and Fourth in the Ranking
Gemini, an AI tool developed by Google, recorded an 18% drop in searches, ranking third in the study. Despite this decline, it remains one of the most searched AI tools, accumulating approximately 13 million searches per month.
Similarly, Claude, developed by Anthropic, saw an 18% reduction in search interest. However, overall search volumes for Claude remain significantly lower than those for Perplexity AI and Gemini. Notably, Anthropic is valued at $18.4 billion, making it twice as valuable as Perplexity AI Inc.
Jasper Chat and Botsify: Declining by 18%
Jasper Chat, another AI tool, also experienced an 18% drop in search volume. Though Jasper AI operates on a smaller scale than major competitors like Claude or OpenAI, it still garnered over 580,000 searches last month.
Similarly, Botsify recorded an 18% decline in searches. As one of the lesser-known AI tools, Botsify accumulated only 3,100 searches in the past month. Additionally, Botsify Inc. is the smallest company in the ranking, with a net worth of approximately $1.5 million.
ChatGPT: Experiencing a 17% Decline
ChatGPT, one of the most well-known AI tools, ranked seventh in the study with a 17% reduction in search interest. Despite this decline, ChatGPT still received an impressive 12.9 billion searches in the past month. However, the growing interest in DeepSeek and other emerging AI technologies has impacted its overall search traffic.
Intercom: The Least Affected AI Tool
Intercom, another AI-powered tool, experienced only a 3% decline in search interest, placing it at the bottom of the ranking in terms of loss of user engagement. Although its search volume remains relatively low, with just over 2,000 searches recorded last month, it has maintained its core user base better than many of its competitors.
