The National Hockey League (NHL) has announced two major multiyear collaborations in the United States with Polymarket and Kalshi, who will serve as the league's official prediction market partners. With the NHL being one of the first major organisations to publicly use prediction markets as part of its digital and interactive strategy, this partnership represents a significant milestone in the growth of fan involvement within professional sports.
Increasing Fan Involvement with Innovation
The agreements grant Polymarket and Kalshi the authority to utilise NHL brands, logos, and designations on their platforms and products, as well as access to the NHL's official private data. Because of this connectivity, both businesses' brokers and merchants can use NHL branding while selling league-related prediction market items.
The partnerships will also provide opportunities for brand exposure through the use of Digitally Enhanced Dasherboards (DED) and blue line slot virtual signage during NHL broadcasts, including national regular season games, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and special events like the NHL Stadium Series and NHL Winter Classic.
In response to the announcement, NHL Business President Keith Wachtel said:
“As prediction markets continue to evolve at a rapid pace, partnering with the two market leaders, Kalshi and Polymarket, provides a tremendous opportunity for the broadest fan engagement during the NHL season. Polymarket and Kalshi are ideal partners as this category continues to grow and expand.”
Leaders in the Industry Support NHL's Vision
The collaborations demonstrate the NHL's commitment to growing its digital fan engagement ecosystem and providing additional avenues for fans to connect with the game through data-driven, real-time involvement. By utilising technology to offer transparent, controlled, and engaging market experiences, Kalshi and Polymarket have both made a name for themselves as industry leaders in the prediction market.
Polymarket's founder and CEO, Shayne Coplan, expressed excitement about the partnership:
“The NHL has always been about giving fans an incredible experience. We’re excited to bring that energy to Polymarket, where fans can engage with the NHL and its teams in a new way. Together, we're making the game more interactive and connected, and we appreciate the support of the NHL in recognizing the future of fan experiences and benefits from engagement with prediction markets.”
In a similar vein, Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour called the collaboration a turning point for the sector:
“Teaming up with the NHL is an important milestone for Kalshi and the industry at large. To have a league like the NHL embrace Kalshi is a testament to the integrity, safety, and trust with consumers that Kalshi has spent years building during our time pioneering this asset class. It should be clear now that prediction markets are here to stay.”
A Milestone for Prediction Markets in Professional Sports
The NHL maintains its reputation for embracing cutting-edge technology and encouraging novel kinds of audience interaction by including prediction markets into its fan engagement strategy. The collaborations with Polymarket and Kalshi represent a more general trend towards data-driven, interactive fan experiences and establish a standard for professional sports organisations to work with new financial technology platforms.
The agreements demonstrate the NHL's dedication to investigating cutting-edge digital technologies that increase fan involvement while guaranteeing openness, honesty, and compliance in all interaction opportunities.
