Rick grew up in Buffalo, New York, in a family with over 100 years in the building trade. Construction was not a theory. It was part of daily life.
“You saw the results of your work right away,” he says. “If something wasn’t right, you fixed it.”
He also spent years playing basketball, including at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned his degree.
“Basketball teaches you how to work with people,” Rick says. “Construction is the same. Timing and communication matter.”
These early lessons shaped how he approached both leadership and problem-solving.
Why He Moved to Charlotte and What He Built
In 1996, Rick moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. The city was growing fast. New homes and renovation projects were everywhere.
He saw an opportunity to apply structured thinking to a fast-moving market.
“Charlotte was expanding quickly,” he says. “But growth can create confusion if you don’t have systems.”
Rick helped build and lead a large design-build remodeling company. One of his key ideas was bringing design and construction under one roof.
“We built an in-house team with AutoCAD designers and production staff,” he explains. “That reduced mistakes and kept projects moving.”
The company earned major recognition, including Remodeler of the Year across North Carolina and the Southeast. But Rick points to consistency as the real achievement.
“We focused on doing the same quality work every time,” he says. “That’s harder than it sounds.”

That small correction avoided costly changes later.

“I handle every estimate and supervise every job,” he says. “That removes confusion.”

Rick saw this shift early.
“I worked on a job where the homeowner had spoken to three different people before construction started,” he says. “Each person had a slightly different version of the plan.”
That experience reinforced his decision to simplify.

Rick’s leadership style has changed over time. Earlier in his career, he managed large teams. Today, he works closer to the project.
“Leadership is about showing up,” he says. “You don’t need to make speeches. You need to be present.”

“If the person responsible for the job isn’t there, small issues get missed,” he explains.
That belief shapes how he runs his company today.

Rick’s interests extend beyond the job site. He enjoys opera, antique cars, Italian food, and travel. He also follows basketball and the Buffalo Bills.
He supports charities like St. Jude and the V Foundation.
“Work is important,” he says. “But it’s not everything.”
