Shakira Ignites Snapdragon Stadium: A Night to Remember in San Diego

On June 26, 2025, Colombian pop icon Shakira delivered a sold-out, show-stopping performance at San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium, marking a monumental moment in her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (LMYNL) World Tour. With 32,000 fans in attendance, the event cemented her legacy as the first Latina and only the second woman to headline a concert at the venue. From the electric atmosphere to dazzling stage effects, Snapdragon Stadium proved itself as a world-class concert destination.

Snapdragon Stadium: A Star Venue Comes Alive

Snapdragon Stadium, known for hosting college football and international soccer, transformed into a beacon of pop excellence for Shakira’s performance. The state-of-the-art venue offered ideal acoustics, modern design, and capacity crowds, elevating the sensory experience for both the artist and attendees. Light-up wristbands pulsed in sync with the music, turning the venue into a sea of colour. The production included a massive 50-foot screen, AI-generated visuals, hydraulic platforms, and pyrotechnics: all of which Snapdragon handled with precision, reinforcing its status as a top-tier entertainment venue.

A Tour Elevated by Demand and Diversity

Initially launched in arena-sized venues in 2024, Shakira’s LMYNL tour expanded to stadiums in 2025 due to high demand. With sold-out stops in Latin America and North America, her global appeal has never been clearer. Snapdragon Stadium was chosen as one of 68 dates, nestled among major cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco, reflecting the strategic selection of prominent venues. The tour is Shakira’s first since the 2018 El Dorado tour and signifies her triumphant return to global stages.

Musical Brilliance and Emotional Depth

The night featured over 25 songs, 13 costume changes, and a running time of more than two hours. Hits such as “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Monotonía,” “Waka Waka,” and “Whenever, Wherever” brought waves of nostalgia, while new songs like “Soltera” and “Última” introduced fresh sounds to the set. A special moment came during “Acróstico,” a ballad dedicated to her sons Milan and Sasha. Footage of them appeared on screen as Shakira sang lyrics about healing and resilience, making for one of the most intimate moments of the evening.

Backstage Moments and Family Bonds

Backstage interactions highlighted Shakira’s personal warmth. She welcomed the mother and aunt of Darina, one of her dancers, treating them with affection and gratitude. She also received a surfboard designed with motifs from her “Don’t Wait Up” music video, a fitting gift from San Diego. One of the evening’s sweetest surprises occurred when Shakira shouted “¡Óyela, Sasha!” during “Addicted to You,” referencing her youngest son watching from backstage, a moment that quickly went viral online.

Empowerment Through Performance

Throughout the night, themes of empowerment resonated strongly. Shakira’s recent breakup with football star Gerard Piqué loomed subtly in the backdrop of her emotionally charged lyrics. Visuals emphasised independence and strength, including the iconic quote displayed across screens mid-show: “The first man was born from a woman’s hips. The hips. Never. Lie.” From belly-dancing solos to guitar-shredding interludes, Shakira proved her artistic depth extends far beyond pop stardom.

Technical Triumphs and Minor Setlist Adjustments

Despite previous tour date cancellations due to venue issues elsewhere, everything ran smoothly at Snapdragon. A few setlist tweaks included the return of “Si Te Vas,” while songs like “Poem to a Horse” were left out. The concert’s precision choreography and seamless transitions were handled impressively by both her team and the venue. The LED visuals, laser displays, and coordinated backup dancers made every moment feel choreographed to perfection, even when spontaneous.

Encore and Farewell: A Roaring Finish

The show concluded with unforgettable encores. A giant inflatable wolf appeared during “She Wolf,” and the crowd howled back in response. The performance of “BZRP Music Sessions #53” brought the evening to a close, leaving fans uplifted and united. As confetti rained and the stage lights dimmed, it was evident that both Shakira and Snapdragon Stadium had created a night that would be remembered in San Diego history.

What’s Next on the Tour

After San Diego, the LMYNL tour heads to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (June 28), Oracle Park in San Francisco (June 30), and continues through major U.S. cities including Los Angeles and Fresno. Shakira will then return to Latin America with dates planned through November, including performances in Mexico and Peru. The Snapdragon show set a high standard for the rest of the tour to follow.

Snapdragon Stadium, still in its early years as an entertainment venue, took a major leap forward by hosting Shakira’s explosive concert. The stadium’s ability to handle the complexity of her production while delivering an unforgettable fan experience reaffirms its role in shaping San Diego’s cultural landscape. For Shakira, the night was a powerful reaffirmation of her global appeal, artistic brilliance, and emotional connection with her audience. Together, artist and arena created a cultural milestone for the city and beyond.
