Solana Honeypot Checker: 4 Checks Before You Buy a Meme Coin, and the One Banana Gun Runs for You
15 Oct 2026

A honeypot on Solana is a token you can buy but cannot sell. Four checks narrow the risk: freeze authority, mint authority and supply, liquidity and tax, and who holds the supply. Banana Gun also runs a sell check before the buy and blocks tokens you cannot sell.
A Solana honeypot checker reads on-chain facts about a token before you spend SOL. Some checkers are websites, and some are built into a trading bot.
Blockworks data shared by SolanaFloor on 8 Sep 2026 put Solana at 67% of all meme coin DEX volume across chains on 7 Sep. Cointelegraph reported on 11 Sep that a record 263,000 SPL tokens were issued in one day.
Contracts pile up faster than you can read them. The four checks below can be done by hand with explorers such as Solscan, Birdeye and DexScreener.
What is a honeypot token on Solana?
A honeypot is a token that lets you buy and blocks you from selling. Your SOL goes in and nothing comes back out.
One way a Solana token does this is a freeze authority. The holder of that authority can freeze token accounts, so the holders of those accounts cannot move or sell.
Banana Gun is a Telegram trading bot with honeypot detection built in. The last section below covers what that check does and where it stops.
Reading a contract by hand is a skill worth having. Banana Gun’s beginner guide shows you how to read a token contract before you buy.
Check 1: freeze authority
A freeze authority lets its holder freeze token accounts. If one is still set on a token you hold, a wallet can lock your balance after you buy.
Look up the token’s authorities on an explorer such as Solscan. A freeze authority that is still set is a reason to skip the trade or keep the buy small.
A token at launch can carry a freeze authority, so check it on every new token, including the ones everyone is talking about.
Check 2: mint authority and supply
A mint authority lets its holder create more supply. More supply dilutes every holder, and a holder who mints can sell the new tokens into every buyer.
Look at the same authorities on the explorer. A mint authority that is still set means the supply you see today is not final.
The Banana Gun buy menu shows Market Cap as soon as you paste the contract. With a live mint authority, the supply behind that number can still grow.
Check 3: liquidity and tax
Liquidity is what pays you when you sell. The Banana Gun buy menu shows Liquidity in SOL next to Market Cap, Price and Tax, so you see it before you tap a Buy button.
Thin liquidity means your sell moves the price against you, even on a token that is not a honeypot. Size the buy so you can exit without being the whole pool.
Liquidity that is not burned or locked can be withdrawn by whoever holds the LP tokens, which is how a rug works. A token that passes every check before the buy can still be rugged this way.
The Tax field shows the buy tax at the moment you paste the contract, a snapshot rather than a promise. In copy trades, Tax Limit skips tokens taxed above the limit you set.
A pump.fun token moves from a bonding curve to a DEX pool when the curve completes. Read Liquidity on the pool the token trades in now, not the one you saw earlier.
Check 4: who holds the supply
A few wallets holding most of the supply can sell into every buyer. The holder list tells you whether that is the case.
Use the Bubble Map widget in Banana Gun Pro or the holder list on Solscan to see how the supply is spread. A concentrated list is a reason to cut your size or skip.
A clean holder list proves nothing about tomorrow. Holders can still sell, and new wallets can still buy and dump.
What does Banana Gun’s honeypot check do for you?
Banana Gun runs a pre-trade sell check before the buy. If the check finds a token you cannot sell, the buy is blocked. The protection is on by default.
The check sits inside the normal Telegram trading bot flow: paste the contract, read the buy menu, then tap a Buy button. Do not count on the check re-running when a limit order or a copy trade fires.
A honeypot check is not a rug check. A token you can sell today can still have its liquidity pulled tomorrow.
Anti-Rug protection is documented at an 80 to 85 percent success rate on the scenarios it targets, which means some rugs still land.
Copy trades carry a further risk. The Banana Gun docs warn that some copied wallets buy pump-and-dumps or honeypots and use copy traders as exit liquidity, so review a wallet’s recent trades first.
If you plan to hold a token for days, check its liquidity again after you buy, because the sell check at buy time cannot see a pool pulled later.
Common questions
How do you check if a Solana token is a honeypot?
Open the token on an explorer such as Solscan and look for a freeze authority and a mint authority, then check Liquidity and Tax, and look at who holds the supply. Each check covers one honeypot or rug setup. Banana Gun adds a sell check before the buy that blocks tokens you cannot sell.
Can a Telegram trading bot check a Solana token for honeypots?
Banana Gun, a Telegram trading bot, runs a pre-trade sell check before the buy and blocks tokens you cannot sell. A honeypot check is not a rug check, so a token you can sell today can still have its liquidity pulled tomorrow. Anti-Rug has a documented 80 to 85 percent success rate on the scenarios it targets.
What is a freeze authority on a Solana token?
A freeze authority on a Solana token lets its holder freeze token accounts, so the holders of those accounts cannot move or sell their tokens. Check it on Solscan before you buy. A live freeze authority on a meme coin is a reason to skip the trade or keep the buy small.
Does a clean honeypot check mean a Solana token cannot rug?
A clean honeypot check means you can sell the token today. It does not stop a team from pulling liquidity tomorrow, minting more supply, or selling a large share of the supply into your buy. Pair the check with the liquidity, authority and holder checks, and size each buy as money you can lose.
