Which Countries Have the Highest Interest in Prop Trading

Which Countries Have the Highest Interest in Prop Trading
The roots of prop trading go back to the early 20th century, when trading firms began using their own money to take positions in financial markets. The model grew alongside Wall Street and later spread into other financial markets, including currencies, futures, and commodities.

You can now find prop trading communities in almost every part of the world. Some countries have large groups of retail traders, while others have busy forex or futures markets that attract plenty of attention.

Here are the 8 countries with the highest interest in prop trading and a closer look at what is driving demand in each market.

8 Countries That Have the Highest Interest in Prop Trading

Search demand gives us a direct signal of interest in prop firms, while FX turnover and retail participation provide additional context.

The figures below are based on data from PropTradeCenter and the BIS 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey.

Country Prop Firm Search Demand Retail Trading Signal Key Market Factor Source
United States 1.40M searches/month Large retail trading base Major futures, stocks and FX market PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025
India 1.78M searches/month Large and growing retail audience Strong retail interest and INR FX activity PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025
United Kingdom 290K searches/month Established trading community World’s largest FX dealing center PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025
Nigeria 204K searches/month Strong retail FX community Young, online-focused trading audience PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025
UAE High per-capita interest Active regional trading hub Major Middle East financial center PTC 2026; BIS 2025
Canada 207K searches/month Established retail investor base Strong links to US markets PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025
South Africa High search interest Established retail FX community Leading African financial hub PTC 2026; BIS 2025
Germany 183K searches/month Large European investor base Major European financial market PropTradeCenter 2026; BIS 2025

1) United States

The US is one of the biggest prop trading markets, with around 1.40 million monthly branded prop-firm searches in PropTradeCenter’s September 2026 data. US-based FX sales desks also handled about $2.34 trillion in average daily turnover in April 2025, according to the BIS. Futures trading is another major part of the market and a common focus for prop firms.

US traders have access to stocks, futures, forex, options, and commodities, giving them a wide range of markets to trade. Prop firms can differ in account sizes, drawdown limits, profit splits, and trading rules. You can use comparison websites to compare prop firms and see how different programs stack up.

2) India

India has the highest branded prop-firm search demand in PropTradeCenter’s September 2026 data, with around 1.78 million searches per month. That represents 24% of the tracked global search demand in its dataset. India also has an active FX market, with the BIS recording about $53 billion in average daily FX turnover in April 2025.

India’s retail trading scene has expanded alongside the growth of online brokers and trading platforms. Stocks, equity derivatives, and currency markets attract millions of market participants, while social media and trading education have made prop trading more accessible to newer traders.

3) United Kingdom

The UK recorded around 290,400 monthly branded prop-firm searches in September 2026, placing it fourth in PropTradeCenter’s country data. Its financial market is much larger than the search figure suggests. UK-based FX sales desks handled about $4.74 trillion in average daily turnover in April 2025, the highest figure among all reporting locations in the BIS survey.

London’s role in global finance puts UK traders close to one of the world’s busiest FX centers. The London trading session also overlaps with the opening hours of other major markets, giving traders access to periods when activity and liquidity can increase across major currency pairs.

4) Nigeria

Nigeria recorded around 204,200 monthly branded prop-firm searches in September 2026, putting it sixth in PropTradeCenter’s global snapshot. The figure points to strong online interest in funded trading, particularly among traders already active in the retail forex community.

Nigeria’s large and young online population has helped trading communities grow through social platforms and messaging apps. Forex remains a popular focus, while funded accounts have introduced another route for traders looking to participate in global markets.

5) UAE

The UAE stands out as a regional financial hub. Dubai attracts financial companies, investors, and traders from across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa. The BIS recorded about $39 billion in average daily FX turnover for the UAE in April 2025.

The country’s location also puts it between major Asian and European trading hours. Dubai’s international business community adds to its appeal, with traders from different regions bringing their preferred markets and strategies into the local financial scene.

6) Canada

Canada recorded around 206,700 monthly branded prop-firm searches in September 2026, placing it fifth in PropTradeCenter’s tracked country demand. Its FX market also has a sizable presence, with Canadian sales desks recording about $233 billion in average daily turnover in April 2025.

Canada’s financial markets are closely connected with those of the United States. Canadian traders can follow major US stock indexes, futures, and economic releases alongside domestic markets. This cross-border connection gives the country’s trading community a strong interest in instruments that move during North American market hours.

7) South Africa

South Africa has one of the more established retail trading communities in Africa, with forex being a major area of interest. The BIS recorded about $21 billion in average daily FX turnover in the country in April 2025. South Africa also serves as an important financial center for the wider African market.

Johannesburg is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, one of Africa’s largest exchanges, while the country’s financial sector connects local investors with international markets. That gives South African traders exposure to stocks, currencies, indices, and commodities.

8) Germany

Germany recorded around 183,100 monthly branded prop-firm searches in September 2026, placing it seventh in PropTradeCenter’s tracked country demand. German-based FX sales desks handled about $386 billion in average daily turnover in April 2025, giving the country a sizable position in the European FX market.

Germany’s role in the European economy also makes major economic releases, the euro, and European indices closely watched by local traders. Frankfurt is home to major financial institutions and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, giving Germany a strong connection to European capital markets.

Global Prop Trading Interest

Prop trading is no longer limited to the major financial centers. Traders in India, the US, UK, Nigeria, the UAE, Canada, South Africa, and Germany are all showing strong interest, although each market has its own trading habits and areas of focus. Search demand gives us a look at where people are actively looking for prop firms, while FX turnover shows how much activity takes place in each country’s broader financial market.

The numbers also show why these markets matter to the prop trading industry. Some have huge retail audiences, others have deep financial markets, and places such as the UAE connect traders from several regions.
