History

Acadia Healthcare was founded in 2005 by Joey Jacobs, a mental healthcare executive and investor. The company specializes in providing behavioural health services to individuals in need, including inpatient and residential care, residential treatment, and outpatient services.

In its first year, the company established its first five facilities, and by 2010, had grown to include more than 100 facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico. In 2011, the company went public, raising $300 million in an initial public offering.

In 2017, the company acquired Priory Group, a specialty mental health and substance abuse provider in the United Kingdom, and expanded its network of services. Since then, the company has grown significantly, now operating more than 500 facilities in 40 states and the United Kingdom, providing a wide range of mental health and addiction services, including substance abuse treatment, psychiatric care, and eating disorder treatment. In addition, the company has acquired several other behavioural health companies, including Foundations Recovery Network and CRC Health Group, both of which specialize in addiction treatment.

Acadia Healthcare has also expanded its services to include a variety of wellness offerings, such as yoga and nutrition counselling, as well as telehealth services, which allow patients to receive treatment from the comfort of their own homes. In 2020, the company launched its first mobile app, which provides users with a range of mental health resources, including personalized assessments, treatment options, and more.

Acadia Healthcare continues to strive to improve the lives of those in need of mental health services and is committed to providing quality, accessible care to its patients.
