Summary

The Adana Soroptimist Club is a part of the global organization of Soroptimists, which consists of women in professions and businesses working together to empower and improve the lives of women and girls. Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International has been addressing women's issues both locally and globally. The Adana Soroptimist Club is a member of Soroptimist International of Europe, the largest federation among the five federations of Soroptimist International, with approximately 30,244 women across Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.

The vision of Soroptimist International is to see women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realise their aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide. Their mission is to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment, and enabling opportunities.

Soroptimist operates based on principles that include the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all, and the promotion of equity, development, and peace through international understanding and goodwill. They focus their efforts on areas such as education, women's empowerment, violence against women, health, and food security, and sustainability.

In Turkey, the Soroptimist movement began in 1948 with the establishment of the Istanbul Soroptimist Club by writer Müfide Ferit Tek. Over time, additional clubs were formed, and the Turkey Soroptimist Clubs Federation (TAFF) was established in 1953, comprising nearly a thousand members. TAFF works in five important areas for women and girls, including education, economic empowerment, elimination of violence against women, health, and a sustainable environment. The federation is dedicated to protecting fundamental rights, particularly for women and children, and creating a peaceful and loving world.

The Soroptimists are committed to raising awareness and advocating for important issues and taking action to address them. They work towards equity and equality for women and girls, combatting trafficking and violence, promoting equal education and training opportunities, eliminating poverty and gender discrimination, supporting women's inclusion in decision-making processes, ensuring access to healthcare, advocating for disease prevention, promoting sustainable practices, assisting women and children during conflicts and disasters, and contributing to peaceful resolutions of intercultural and interracial disputes.

The Adana Soroptimist Club, along with other Soroptimist clubs in Turkey, aims to serve society by adhering to high moral principles in business life and fostering friendship among its members. Through their collective efforts, they strive to make a positive impact on society and work towards a better future for women and children.

History

The Adana Soroptimist Club has a rich history rooted in the Soroptimist movement, which began in Turkey in 1948. The movement was initiated by the establishment of the Istanbul Soroptimist Club by Müfide Ferit Tek, a prominent Turkish writer, in that same year. This marked the beginning of a journey towards empowering women and advocating for their rights in Turkey.

Over time, the Soroptimist movement gained momentum and spread to different regions of the country. In 1953, the Turkey Soroptimist Clubs Federation (TAFF) was established, bringing together various Soroptimist clubs across Turkey. The federation grew steadily and became an influential force in promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, and social change.

The Adana Soroptimist Club, situated in the city of Adana in southern Turkey, became an integral part of the Soroptimist movement. With a commitment to the principles of Soroptimist International, the club has been dedicated to advancing the status of women, upholding high ethical standards, advocating for human rights, and fostering peace and development through international understanding.

Throughout its history, the Adana Soroptimist Club has actively worked on a range of projects and initiatives that address the needs and challenges faced by women and girls in the community. The club has focused on areas such as education, economic empowerment, the elimination of violence against women, health, and environmental sustainability. By implementing concrete and practical initiatives, the Adana Soroptimist Club has made a significant impact on the lives of women and girls in the region.

As a member of Soroptimist International of Europe, the Adana Soroptimist Club has also collaborated with other clubs and organizations at the national and international levels. This collaboration has allowed them to expand their reach and work towards achieving common goals and objectives.

The Adana Soroptimist Club continues to play a vital role in promoting gender equality, supporting women's rights, and striving for positive social change. With their dedication, passion, and collective efforts, the club has become a beacon of hope for women and girls in Adana, empowering them to realize their potential and contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society.
