Afet Haritasi (Disaster Map)

The "Disaster Response Map" (Disaster Map) is a cooperative project of TPF and the Needs Map. It is a digital platform that can track in real time all actors providing support to increase efficiency in aid and action and minimize duplications.

It is an online social platform cooperative to provide real-time information on natural disasters and emergencies in Turkey. It effectively communicates and coordinates between various actors like local authorities, NGOs, companies, and volunteers for support and rescue efforts.

The platform offers a range of features, including live updates on earthquakes, floods, landslides, and other natural disasters, as well as information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, and other critical resources. Users can access the platform online or via a mobile app, and can use the map-based interface to explore information on disasters and emergencies in their area. "Afet Haritasi" is a valuable tool for disaster management and response, and has been instrumental in helping to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in Turkey.

The Elazig earthquake that occurred on January 24, 2020, was a devastating natural disaster that resulted in significant loss of life, injuries, and damage to property and infrastructure in the affected region. In the aftermath of the earthquake, civil society organizations and volunteers mobilized to provide support and assistance to those affected by the disaster.

One of the outcomes of this mobilization was the creation of the Disaster Platform, which is a civil society network that came together with the mission of minimizing the negative effects of disasters by supporting social solidarity and inter-institutional cooperation in disasters. The Disaster Platform is made up of a diverse group of organizations and individuals, including NGOs, academics, volunteers, and other stakeholders who are committed to disaster management and response.

The primary goal of the Disaster Platform is to enhance disaster resilience in Turkey by promoting social solidarity and cooperation among various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities. The platform aims to achieve this goal through a range of activities, including:

Capacity building: The Disaster Platform seeks to enhance the capacity of stakeholders to respond to disasters through training programs, workshops, and other educational initiatives.

Advocacy and awareness-raising: The platform aims to raise awareness about the importance of disaster management and response among the public and policymakers, and to advocate for policies and programs that support disaster resilience.

Networking and collaboration: The Disaster Platform facilitates networking and collaboration among various stakeholders to promote inter-institutional cooperation and coordination in disaster management and response.

Mobilization of resources: The platform seeks to mobilize resources from various sources, including government agencies, private sector organizations, and individuals, to support disaster management and response efforts.

The Disaster Response Map facilitates communication between various actors and enables Turkey to quickly mobilize needs in disaster areas to identify and supply them. This one-of-a-kind platform centralizes all disaster relief efforts in Turkey and accelerates the recovery efforts and resilience of disaster-affected communities.

The Disaster Map focuses on solving the problems of effective communication and coordination between various actors such as local authorities, NGOs, companies and volunteers for support and rescue efforts.
