In the early 2000s, America Movil began to expand into Latin America and rapidly grew to become the largest mobile operator in the region. Over the next decade, the company expanded its services to fixed-line and broadband, becoming a major provider in the region. In 2010, America Movil acquired Brasilcel – Brazil’s third-largest mobile operator. This acquisition made America Movil the largest cellular carrier in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, and seven other countries. In 2016, the company rebranded itself as America Movil and adopted a new logo. In addition, the company announced plans to acquire AT&T’s assets in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. This acquisition was completed in 2017 and made America Movil the largest provider throughout the region. Today, America Movil is the largest mobile telecommunications provider in Latin America with over 265 million subscribers. The company continues to focus on providing innovative services, such as 5G networks, to its customers throughout the region.
