Before entering the technology and blockchain industry, Andrew spent 18 years as Managing Director of Investment Banking at GMP Securities (now Stifel Canada). 

 

He was the lead banker on over 30 transactions exceeding $4 billion in financing and 10+ M&A advisory mandates totalling over $3 billion.  He co-headed the Blockchain Group, led the Real Estate, Structured Products, and Retail Capital Markets divisions, and was Co-Head of Technology, Media Group.

 

Andrew holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Toronto and an Honours BA from York University. He is an Independent Director at Smartset Services, Tribe Property Technologies, and Iocaste Ventures.

Biography

Andrew Kiguel was born in Canada and pursued higher education at York University, where he obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994. He later attended the University of Toronto, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance in 1997. His academic background laid the foundation for his career in finance, investment banking, and later, emerging technologies. He also completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Partners, Directors, and Senior Officers Course, which prepared him for leadership roles in financial institutions.

 

He began his career in finance at GMP Securities (now Stifel Canada), where he worked for 18 years as Managing Director of Investment Banking. During this period, he was involved in over 30 transactions, raising more than $4 billion in equity and debt financing. Additionally, he led over 10 mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals valued at more than $3 billion. He played a key role in structuring financial deals and was a member of the New Names Approval and Structured Products Approval committees. 

 

Between 2009 and 2011, he co-headed the Technology and Media Group, working with companies in digital industries. Later, he became Head of Real Estate, Structured Products, and Retail Capital Markets, where he managed financial deals across various sectors. He was also Co-Head of the Blockchain Group, a role that introduced him to blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies.

 

In 2018, Andrew co-founded Hut 8 Mining Corp., a publicly traded Bitcoin mining and blockchain infrastructure company. As CEO and Co-Founder, he led the company to achieve $143 million in revenue and $52 million in EBITDA within two years. He also secured $108 million in equity funding and $33 million in debt financing while overseeing the construction of a 67-megawatt industrial-scale Bitcoin mining site. Under his leadership, Hut 8 went public with an IPO valuation of $450 million.

 

In 2020, he founded Tokens.com, a company focused on investing in digital assets and blockchain-based businesses. He served as CEO and Executive Chair until 2024. Tokens.com played a role in expanding institutional investment in cryptocurrency and web3 projects. From 2021 to 2024, he was Executive Chair of Metaverse Group, a firm specialising in virtual real estate and digital property transactions. The company was involved in developing real estate assets in virtual worlds such as Decentraland and The Sandbox. In April 2024, Andrew became Chairman and CEO of Realbotix Corp., a company that develops AI-integrated, human-like robots for companionship and social interaction.
