The company was formerly known as On Assignment, Inc. and changed its name to ASGN Incorporated in April 2018. ASGN Incorporated was incorporated in 1985 and is based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

ASGN Incorporated was founded in 1985 as an IT staffing organization and has since grown to include additional specialized IT services, including training, consulting and direct-hire recruiting. Over the years, On Assignment has become a publicly-traded and Fortune 1000 Company.
