Atlas Energy was founded in 1986 in Houston, Texas and since then has become one of the largest and most successful energy companies in the United States. The company was initially a provider of oil and gas production services and has since diversified into other areas such as natural gas processing, natural gas liquids, and retail electricity. Atlas Energy has grown to be a large integrated energy company with operations in over 30 states. In 2012, Atlas Resource Partners acquired Atlas Energy, creating a larger entity with increased capabilities.
