BEM has long played a major role in the construction, improvement and maintenance of Bangkok's transit systems, including the Skytrain and Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link. The company began operation in 1999, succeeding the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority in providing the services it is responsible for.
