History

Bill Barrett Corporation was founded in May 2002 by former Questar Corporation executive Bill Barrett. The company grew rapidly as it acquired operating interests in the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S., including Wyoming’s oil- and gas-rich Green River Basin, Utah’s Uinta Basin, and Colorado’s Piceance Basin. Currently, Bill Barrett Corporation represents the sixth-largest acreage position in the Green River Basin, the third-largest surface owner in the Uinta Basin, and the fifth-largest acreage position in the high-potential Niobrara play in the DJ Basin of Colo.

The company was also a finalist for the 2014 Governor’s Achievement Award in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, presented by the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.
