Capreit started as a private real estate firm specializing in the development, ownership and management of multifamily residential properties in the Greater Toronto Area in 1988. Despite the unstable economy in the early years, their portfolio grew steadily, and Capreit evolved into a public company in 1994. Their growth trajectory continued, and they opened their first regional office in 2008.
