Cheap Tickets was founded in 1986 as a small travel agency located in New York City. In 1998, the company was acquired by USA Networks and was relaunched as an online travel search engine. With the relaunch, Cheap Tickets became the first online travel agency in the United States. The company grew rapidly and in 2002, they acquired Hotwire, an online travel search engine. In 2006, the company was acquired by Expedia Inc. and is now operated as a subsidiary of the company.
