He attended a Foreign and Commonwealth Office trade policy session, receiving a certificate of attendance.
Clarke also holds a BA in Geography from the University of Sussex, where he was Head of News and Communications for University Radio Falmer and represented the university at the National Model United Nations conference at the UN General Assembly in New York. Biography
Daniel Clarke completed his secondary education at Saint George Catholic Voluntary-Aided Secondary School, where he achieved 11 GCSEs graded A* to C between 2009 and 2014. Following this, he attended Barton Peveril Sixth Form College from 2014 to 2016, where he studied A Levels in Business Studies, History, and Geography, achieving grades A*, A, and B respectively. He scored full marks in his final Business Studies exam and regularly took part in the debating society.
In 2016, Daniel enrolled at the University of Sussex to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Geography. During his time from 2016 to 2019, he studied various topics including the Making of Modern Europe, Geographies of Rising and Declining Powers, Philosophy and Politics in the Middle East, and Geographies of Violence and Conflict. He earned a 2:1 grade overall.
While at Sussex, Daniel was elected Head of News and Communications for University Radio Falmer. In 2019, he was selected to represent the university at the National Model United Nations conference at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, which improved his understanding of international diplomacy and security issues.
In 2018, Daniel was invited on an academic merit-based trip to Renmin University of China, where he completed a summer school course on ‘The EU in Crisis – Understanding Current Issues in European Politics.’ The course deepened his knowledge of the euro zone, EU policy on counter-terrorism, environment, corruption, and Sino-European relations.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Daniel pursued a Master’s degree in International Public Policy at University College London from 2019 to 2020. He graduated with a Merit grade. During his master’s, he participated in the UCL Model United Nations and the International Relations Society. He also attended professional training in communication and negotiation organised by Dods Group PLC. Additionally, he was invited to an FCO Trade Policy session led by Dr Lauge Poulsen and was awarded a certificate of attendance by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
From September 2019 to January 2020, Daniel worked as a Research Assistant at Survation Ltd in London. Between January 2020 and May 2021, he worked part-time as a Private Tutor for A-Level and GCSE students, teaching Geography and Business Studies. During the COVID-19 pandemic from November 2020 to March 2021, he worked part-time as a COVID-19 Vaccine Trials Administration Assistant with the Clinical Vaccine Trials Team at University Hospital Southampton, helping to accelerate vaccine trial results across Hampshire and Wessex.
In 2020, Daniel served as an Outreach Officer and Podcast Host for the United Nations Association Youth Platform UK, where he contributed to awareness and engagement activities. Between March and June 2021, he completed an internship at Hanbury Strategy in London, gaining experience in strategic policy and consultancy.
In September 2021, Daniel joined GlobalData Plc as a full-time Analyst. Over the course of 1 year and 7 months, he researched technology, geopolitics, China, and the energy transition, contributing to reports and analysis that informed clients and stakeholders.
Since March 2023, Daniel has worked as Policy Manager for International Policy and Trade at techUK in London. In this role, he focuses on trade policy matters, including digital trade, free trade agreements, economic security, and bilateral technology cooperation. He leads multiple work streams involving UK relations with Japan, the Asia-Pacific region, India, China, and Ukraine. Concurrently, from December 2023, he has served part-time as an Industry Member of the UK Domestic Advisory Group on Trade and Sustainable Development within the Department for Business and Trade.
Daniel is a full member of Chatham House and has contributed to various projects, publications, and events relating to international trade, technology policy, and geopolitics. His career has consistently involved research, policy analysis, and engagement with international partners, reflecting his interest in politics, economic geography, and international relations.
At present, Daniel Clarke continues his role at techUK, managing international policy and trade initiatives, while maintaining active involvement in trade advisory groups and contributing to discussions on technology and economic security.
