Dominik is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Memgraph, a company based in London, United Kingdom. Memgraph is a leading provider of high-performance graph databases and graph analytics that builds an open-source graph database designed for real-time streaming data.

Memgraph has grown into a widely used graph platform with over 150,000 downloads, 3,000+ GitHub stars, and a global developer community. It is also used by organisations such as NASA and Cedars-Sinai for AI and data-driven applications, including GraphRAG and vector search.

Before founding Memgraph, Dominik worked on projects such as KiDnect (later PeThe) and participated in international competitions.

He won Imagine Cup Croatian Finals (2011), reached the Top 18 at Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals in New York, and later received Microsoft Imagine Cup Grants (2012).

Dominik is an active open-source contributor, a graph technology advocate, and a frequent supporter of developer education and community growth.

Dominik holds Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (2010–2014).

Biography

Dominik Tomicevic showed a strong interest in computers, problem solving, and building software systems since childhood. During his school years, he actively took part in national and international technology competitions, which laid the foundation for his future work in software engineering and data systems.

In 2010, while still a high school student, he won first place at Infokup, the Croatian National Competition in Informatics, in the Software Development category. This achievement marked an important milestone, as it recognised his technical skills at a national level. In 2011, he and his team won first place at the Imagine Cup 2011 Croatian finals in the Software Design category with the project KiDnect. In the same year, the team reached the top 18 at the Imagine Cup 2011 Worldwide Finals in New York, competing against teams from around the world. Also in

In 2011, he received the City of Vrbovec Annual Award for social engagement, contribution to the local community, and scientific achievements.

In 2012, Dominik became a winner of the Microsoft Imagine Cup Grants, which provided funding for the further development of the PeThe project, previously known as KiDnect. This support helped transform a student project into a serious technology initiative with global relevance. In 2013, he received a Special Acknowledgement for Innovations from the Rector of the University of Zagreb during Dies Academicus, in recognition of internationally recognised innovations. That same year, he also completed a Coursera course titled “An Introduction to Corporate Finance,” expanding his understanding of business and finance alongside his technical education.

Dominik studied Computer Science at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree between 2010 and 2014. During his university years, he continued to work on advanced technical projects. In 2014, he won first place at Mozgalo, a student data mining competition organised by eStudent. The task involved building a sentiment analysis system to determine public opinion on beer brands. His team designed a distributed system that collected data from Facebook posts and Twitter, analysed sentiment values, and presented insights through a web application with maps, charts, and detailed analytics.

In 2016, Dominik co-founded Memgraph and took on the role of Founder and Chief Executive Officer. Based in London, United Kingdom, he began building an open-source graph database designed for real-time streaming data and compatibility with Neo4j. From the start, Memgraph focused on performance, scalability, and ease of use in production environments that require fast and reliable graph analytics.

Between 2016 and the present, Dominik has played a direct role in shaping Memgraph’s core technology. As a backend contributor, he worked on fundamental system components, including a spinlock, a lock-free skip list, a KD-tree, a JSON data modelling class, and FNV hashing. He also contributed to transaction management and the development of highly concurrent and lock-free algorithms. His work focused on building a system capable of handling high transaction volumes with both read and write workloads in real time.

In 2017, Dominik was recognised by Forbes as one of the “10 London Entrepreneurs Under 30 to Watch,” highlighting his role in building a technology company with global reach. Over the following years, Memgraph grew steadily as an open-source project and commercial product. The database was adopted by developers and organisations working in areas such as fraud detection, cybersecurity, and real-time analytics. The Memgraph community expanded to thousands of members, with strong engagement on GitHub and a growing global user base.

In 2021, Dominik received a Certificate of Attendance for “Graph Analytics for Python Developers” from Memgraph, reflecting the company’s ongoing focus on education and developer experience. During this period, Memgraph continued to evolve with features designed for modern AI and analytics workloads, including support for vector search and GraphRAG use cases.

Today, Memgraph is used by organisations such as NASA and Cedars-Sinai for AI and data-driven applications. The platform supports mission-critical environments handling over one thousand transactions per second, with graph sizes ranging from hundreds of gigabytes to multiple terabytes. Memgraph follows a simple pricing model based on memory usage and provides direct access to engineering support.

Currently, Dominik Tomicevic continues to serve as Co-Founder and CEO of Memgraph. He leads the company with a focus on real-time graph analytics, open-source development, and practical adoption of graph technology in production systems. Alongside his leadership role, he remains closely connected to engineering, distributed systems, and the open-source graph ecosystem. He speaks English and Croatian and continues to work from London while building and expanding Memgraph’s global presence.

Vision

Dominik Tomicevic’s vision is to make graph technology simple, fast, and useful for real-world problems. He believes that data should move and update in real time, not sit still in systems that are slow to adapt. Through Memgraph, his goal is to help developers and organisations analyse connected data as it happens, using tools that are easy to learn and reliable in production. He strongly supports open-source software and believes in building long-term relationships with users and developers. His vision focuses on practical innovation, strong engineering foundations, and creating technology that works at scale.
