Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth (BSKKV), formerly Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, is a prominent agricultural university located in Dapoli, Maharashtra. In 1965, the College of Agriculture was founded, making it the oldest institution within the university. Over time, other specialised colleges were added to the university’s portfolio. The College of Forestry was established in 2005, followed by the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology in 1999, and the College of Fisheries in 1981. The university’s agricultural engineering programme made it the first in Maharashtra to receive ISO 9000-2000 certification. These colleges offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various agricultural disciplines, including agriculture, horticulture, forestry, fisheries, and agricultural engineering.
 

BSKKV is renowned for its research contributions. The university’s research focus is mainly on rice, horticulture, and fisheries. In particular, its research centre at Karjat has developed several patented rice varieties. The university operates 15 off-campus research stations across the Konkan region, which focus on crop production, pest management, soil conservation, and resource management. BSKKV’s research has led to the development of improved farming practices that help increase productivity and sustainability in agriculture.
