His career began in 1992 as a Special Officer to the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. He then served as a Project Officer at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), part of the Public Service Department, from 1994 to 2000. His subsequent roles included Director of Corporate Services at the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department and Vice President at Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

Dr. Amiruddin returned to the public sector as Director of INTAN from 2010 to 2012, followed by his role as Director of the National Strategy Unit in the Ministry of Finance until 2018. He then served as President of Putrajaya Corporation before becoming the Director General of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in 2020.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Town Planning Studies, a Master of Science in Information Technology for Manufacture, and a Doctorate in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management. His extensive experience in public service and management has contributed significantly to Malaysia's development in various sectors.

Datuk Dr. Amiruddin Hassim, currently serving as the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), has had a notable career spanning over 28 years in the Malaysian Civil Service. Appointed to his present role on September 15, 2022, Dr. Amiruddin has demonstrated significant expertise in public administration and management across various capacities.

Dr Amiruddin's career began in 1992 when he served as a Special Officer to the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. His initial roles provided him with a solid foundation in public service, leading to his subsequent position as a Project Officer at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), within the Public Service Department (JPA) from 1994 to 2000. This role involved overseeing various projects aimed at improving public sector efficiency and effectiveness.

In 2003, Dr. Amiruddin transitioned to the Economic Planning Unit (UPE) within the Prime Minister’s Department, where he held the position of Director, Corporate Services Grade M54 until 2009. His work at UPE involved strategic planning and corporate management, contributing to national economic strategies and policies. Following this, he took on the role of Vice President at Khazanah Nasional Berhad from 2009 to 2010, where he was involved in high-level financial and investment decisions.

Returning to the public sector, Dr. Amiruddin became the Director of INTAN in 2010, a position he held until 2012. During this tenure, he was responsible for shaping the training and development of civil servants, enhancing the capabilities of Malaysia’s public administration workforce. From 2012 to 2018, he served as the Director of the National Strategy Unit (NSU) within the Ministry of Finance (MoF), where he played a crucial role in formulating and implementing national economic policies and strategies.

In 2018, Dr. Amiruddin was appointed as the President of Putrajaya Corporation, a role he held until 2020. As President, he was instrumental in managing and developing Putrajaya, Malaysia's federal administrative centre. His leadership in this position was marked by efforts to enhance the city's infrastructure and urban management.

Before his appointment to MOSTI, Dr Amiruddin was the Director General of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) within the Prime Minister’s Department, starting in 2020. His role involved overseeing disaster management and response strategies, ensuring effective coordination during emergencies and natural disasters.

Dr Amiruddin holds an impressive academic background, including a Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) in Town Planning Studies from Birmingham Polytechnic/University of Central England, a Master of Science (MSc) in Information Technology for Manufacture (Environment) from Warwick University, and a Diploma in Public Management from INTAN. He earned his Doctorate in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management from the University of York and completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. His diverse educational qualifications reflect a commitment to both public administration and specialised fields such as environmental management and technology.
