After completing his education, Erik embarked on his career in the tech industry. His first significant role was at PTFS, where he managed technical resources, overseeing IT, software engineering, and professional services. This experience helped him understand the critical relationship between technology infrastructure and business success. Over the next several years, Erik worked in various technical and leadership roles, refining his expertise in the field.
In 2004, Erik joined Convera as the Director of Product Management. He was responsible for leading all product management and marketing activities, defining product requirements, and developing strategies for product positioning. His ability to guide product strategy and his focus on the needs of the market made him a key player in the company’s success during his tenure.
Erik’s career reached a pivotal point in 2007 when he moved to FAST Search & Transfer, a company focused on information discovery products. He served as Director of Product Management, where he contributed to shaping the strategic direction of the company’s products. When FAST was acquired by Microsoft in 2008, Erik transitioned to Microsoft, where he served as a Product Manager for the Enterprise Search Team. In 2010, Erik joined Comcast Cable as the Executive Director of Product Management. He led the development of a groundbreaking search and recommendation system, serving over a billion daily interactions. In 2018, Erik moved to Elsevier as Vice President of Product Management for Knowledge Discovery. At Elsevier, he spearheaded the development of ScopusAI, an AI and large language model (LLM)-based discovery platform that enabled academics and researchers to gain insights from a vast corpus of scholarly articles.
