Geisha Designs is an Indian luxury lifestyle brand that presents a good mix of traditions and contemporary style to create classic, heritage and timeless pieces. Sustainability-focused from the day it launched, the founders Paras and Shalini remains devout in their commitment to doing more with less even as the label now welcomes an international following.
Founder designers Shalini and Paras both studied at NIFT Delhi, worked on a lot of projects together and realised that they had similar strengths in fashion design. The duo did some freelance projects together and eventually launched their own label Geisha Designs. Today the luxury fashion brand has completed fifteen years in the business.
“We decided to open a store nearly six- seven years after opening our business, and within a month of opening the government demolished it. We again opened up two other stores at two different places, but something or the other happened, hurdles came up. We virtually got out of retail…" the duo tell Abraxas Lifestyle. "We had a beautiful factory in Delhi, but because of the pollution and the government norms, we had to move to Noida. We went far away from our homes, but when I look back now I don’t regret it because we have our own factory, everything is in-house and we have a far bigger team…"
Today Geisha Designs presents a good mix of tradition and contemporary style to create classic, heritage and timeless pieces. A design philosophy that epitomizes style and focuses on fine craftsmanship, utility and refinement, binds Shalini Jaikaria and Paras Bairoliya, the duo behind the label.
The design aesthetic of Geisha Designs two lines is very different. Geisha Couture is an archive of heavily embellished gowns and each collection is quite diverse in terms of design and detailing. Geisha Resort- however- is a dive into a spectrum of vibrant silhouettes segregated into feminine, romantic skirts, maxis, jackets and tops while the detailing focuses on dainty prints, embroideries and textures.
On completing fifteen years, Shalini Jaikaria told Business Times. “Over the last 15 years I have laboured with craftsmen to re-invent romance such that it keeps me motivated and loved. The team which started as just two members proudly has 200 plus skilled craftsmen today. We are immensely proud of our label and what we have managed to create and accomplish over the years. Our work is an external expression of our internal journey…”

Geisha Designs has two distinct lines: haute couture and resort wear. The haute couture collections mostly feature hand embellished evening gowns and each collection is quite diverse in terms of design and intricate detailing. The resort wear- however- has a spectrum of vibrant silhouettes, mostly feminine, romantic skirts, maxis, jackets and tops while the detailing focuses on dainty prints, hand embroideries and textures.
