History

GMDC was established in 1963. In 1964 it arrested development of Bhavnagar, Surkha & Chandrapur lignite project. year 1968 marks the beginning of Kutch lignite project in Gujarat. In 1971 GMDC entered into energy sector with Ukai Thermal Power project. Later GMDC also initiated with steps to form joint venture companies.
