Guoguang Electric Company Ltd was founded in January of 1976 in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi Province, China. Under the control of the State Council, the company was originally named Guangxi Provincial Electric Machinery Plant. It was later changed to Guangxi Fangchenggang Guoguang Electric Machinery Plant, and then to Fangchenggang Guoguang Electric Co. Ltd. In 1997, the name of the company was officially changed to Guoguang Electric Company Ltd. The company has since expanded into Guangdong, Sichuan, Yunnan, and other provinces, establishing many subsidiaries and branches including Guoguang Special Electric Group, Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Group, Fangchenggang Guoguang Hydropower Group, and so on.
