Idacorp was founded in 1916 by the privately owned Idaho Power Company, which generates and distributes electricity in southern Idaho. With the passage of the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978, Idaho Power was reorganized and Idacorp was established as its holding company. The company has since grown to become an energy leader in the Pacific Northwest, providing energy services to more than 580,000 customers in Idaho and Oregon.
