Few know that Jenjum Gadi began his career in fashion design working for Rohit Bal. Seeing Jenjum’s graduation collection at Wigan and Leigh, for which he won the ‘Best Collection’ prize, Bal immediately offered him a job which lasted around seven months. “I wish I had worked there longer. It was my first job, which I left to start Koga. I was restless, I couldn’t wait. Everybody told me to work for some more time, get some experience. Whatever little experience I had from Rohit Bal made me start Koga,” he told the Hindu.
After co-launching fashion label Koga with Jasleen Kochchar, Jenjum Gadi moved on to launch his eponymous menswear brand. His body of work for his eponymous label is inspired by his Northeastern heritage. “I really want to work with the loin looms of the Northeast and promote it in a big way" Gadi told Fashion Network. "While on other looms you can weave nine to fifteen metres at one go, here you can’t go more than one to two meters. Whatever you make will have a joint and the design has to be minimal waste. Also, most people have started using acrylics but I want to work with cotton."
