JSL’s roots can be traced back to 1958 when O.P Jindal founded a steel trading company, Jindal Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. In 1985 the group entered the stainless steel business after commissioning a stainless steel melting shop. In August 1996 the group’s flagship company, JSL was incorporated. Following this, in April 1998, the Indian government allowed private companies to set up steel plants and Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) was recognised as a Pioneer Project under the capacity expansion and modernisation scheme of the Ministry of Steel. In 2006, JSL got listed on the Indian stock exchanges.
