Originally commencing as a remittance-focused venture, Kora underwent a strategic shift in 2019, evolving into a dynamic B2B entity that offers its current suite of services. During this transformative period, the company participated in the Techstars Toronto program.
In 2022, Kora achieved a significant milestone by obtaining a commercial PSSP license from the Central Bank of Nigeria. In the same year, the company expanded its horizons to the United Kingdom, forging a strategic partnership with the municipal government in Birmingham to inaugurate its inaugural fully operational office in the UK. The grand opening of the 2022 Commonwealth Games showcased Kora's prominent role as a fresh source of foreign direct investment (FDI) for the West Midlands, emphasizing its significance on the international stage.
History
Dickson Nsofor founded Kora in 2017. Later on, Gideon Orovwiroro and Bryan Uyanwune and Ayodeji Osisami joined him as the first employees.At the time, the company focused on building financial tools for NGOs to disburse funds utilizing the blockchain technology. The idea for the company came from Dickson Nsofor, who was at the time working for a fintech in London, HumanIQ, providing a solution to the problem of 60% of the world's population lacking full access to financial services.
