Malini Ramani has been designing glamorous occassionwear since eighteen years. Everything she creates has an old soul with a modern feel focusing on comfort, style and pure sensuality. 

After studying Fashion Merchandising and Buying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Malini Ramani returned to her hometown, New Delhi and tried on several aesthetic hats—nightclubs, television and design. Five years later she narrowed it down to fashion design and has since been the fashion designer the girls flock to for high-octane glamorous body-sculpting party wear with her most memorable collection being' Rock star meets Indian Princess'.

What is refreshing about her luxury label is that she only creates things she would love to wear… Moroccan-inspired kaftans slashed to the knee, jumpsuits engraved with Mayan and Aztec swirls, sculpted gowns with plunging necklines and cinched waists or tie-dye cocktail dresses. Her iconic sculpted one-shoulder metallic playsuit was made for starlit cocktails while an equally popular shimmering black and bronze wrap dress, fringed at the hem, is spotted at star-truffled yacht parties.

Lately, her sharp albeit comfortable collections are a vehicle of creative expression since she undertook a Kundalini Yoga teaching course in Bali. Though the past has a lot of pull on Ramani, she is not mired in it. Offering a pure distillation of free spirit steeped in inspiration of her inclination towards spirituality and yoga, her muse is a woman who is comfortable in her skin and carries off both glam, bohemian ensembles and relaxed athleisure. "I like to reinvent my design aesthetic" she grins.

So it was sad news for her loyal clientele when she announced that she was closing her label and moving on in a different direction. Per Vogue: “”I've had an amazing time doing this. But my interests have been moving in a different direction for some time now" says Ramani. "I love fashion but who decided you can’t love something else too? Some things run their course. It’s time for the next chapter." The Covid-19 pandemic and its overall impact on the fashion industry also prompted Ramani’s decision. "The business is changing, and it felt like the right time to move on" adding that there isn’t a need for party-ready clothes at the moment, which happens to be the heart of her label."

Per voice Of Fashion: “”I have always pushed myself mentally and physically, burning the candle at both ends. I have partied like crazy and worked like a maniac" Ramani writes in a blog on her website explaining her shift to holistic living and a tryst with Kundalini Yoga... A new chapter that also inspired a wearable yoga line which includes pieces like the Karma Kaftan and the Moonbeam cape—comfort clothing in calming white. Ramani now wants to invest her energies in various facets of wellness. "When I dressed people and saw the happiness it gave them—that brought me joy.""

The next season witnessed a fabulous red carpet collection including intricately embellished capes, concept saris, fringed skirts and sexy jumpsuits, and one could feel the effort invested into handcrafting the bohemian jersey cape blouse embellished with mirror work or the jersey tube jumpsuit with the bodice embellished with mirror-work accents. Head scarves, thick belts and boots completed the looks.
