Marianne Hagen

Marianne Hagen is a Norwegian professional with experience in government, corporate leadership, and strategic communications. She served as Deputy Minister at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later held executive roles in the private sector, including Executive Vice President at Aker Solutions. Her career includes leadership positions at the Royal Court of Norway and advisory roles within the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association. Hagen is currently involved in sustainability and climate-focused initiatives, including the UArctic Seabed Curtain project, where she works on strategic development, government relations, and communications. She also holds board and advisory roles across organisations in Norway.

Marianne Hagen studied Law and Political Science at the University of Oslo between 1990 and 1992. She began her professional career in 2001 as an advisor to the Chief Executive Officer at the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, where she worked until 2008. Her role focused on advisory functions related to communications and organisational strategy.

In 2008, she joined the Royal Court of Norway as Head of Communications. Over nearly a decade, she managed communication strategies and media relations for the institution. In November 2017, she was appointed State Secretary (Deputy Minister) at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she served until October 2020. During this period, she was involved in foreign policy communication and governmental coordination.

In 2021, Hagen transitioned to the private sector as Executive Vice President for Sustainability and Communications at Aker Solutions. In this role, she was responsible for sustainability strategy, corporate communications, and stakeholder engagement across the organisation.

Alongside her executive responsibilities, she has held multiple board positions. These include roles at Treasure ASA, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, Gjensidige ASA, Agaia, and Polyteknisk Forening. She has also served as Chair of Martina Hansens Hospital AS and is currently Chair of Stiftelsen Martina Hansen.

Since 2021, she has operated Marianne Hagen Consulting, providing advisory services. In 2023, she joined UArctic Tipping Point Actions as Executive Director of Government Relations and Communications. She currently serves as co-lead of the UArctic Seabed Curtain project at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), where she works on strategic development, government relations, communications, and project oversight.

Her work in this role focuses on initiatives aimed at addressing climate-related challenges, including efforts to delay glacier melting in Greenland and Antarctica.
