Match Group is a division of IAC & online dating portfolio that comprises over forty brands around the world. The Match Group is the world's leading provider of dating products, redefining the way millions of people meet, date and start relationships every day. We offer our products under nearly 50 brands, translated into nearly 40 languages and available in more than 200 countries across five continents. Our principal brands include Match, Tinder, Meetic, OkCupid and OurTime.
We generate revenues through a combination of subscription, transaction and advertising models, distributed through desktop and mobile devices. History
1986: IAC itself was established as the Silver King Broadcasting Company.
2006: Finances Revenue was listed at $311.2 million.
2007: A total of $145.5 million was spent on Advertising this year.
2009: Members In Q4, IAC dating sites had 1,377,000 paying subscribers.
2010: In February, Match.com acquired the dating site Singlesnet. Members In Q4 2010, IAC dating sites had 1,789,000 paying subscribers.
2012: The online dating application Tinder was founded within Hatch Labs, a startup incubator run by parent company IAC. The application allowed users to anonymously swipe to like or dislike other profiles based on their photos, common interests and a small bio.
2013: Quarter 4 revenue was $203.9 million.
2014: Revenue for the fourth quarter for The Match Group increased by 15%. Globally the Match Group had 3.5 million subscribers for the year.
2016: The first time was this year when Match Group opposed the MuzMatch app’s EU trademark registration. For quarter 4, the Match Group's gross revenue was $295 million.
2018: In January, Mandy Ginsberg, formerly the CEO of Match North America, replaced Greg Blatt as CEO of the company. In June they purchased 51% of the app. Match Group acquired 51% ownership of the dating app Hinge. In July, Match Group launched a Safety Advisory Council comprising a group of experts focused on preventing sexual assault across its portfolio of products. Match Group’s quarter 4, exceeded revenue expectations causing their stock to rise 5%.
2019: In February, Match Group fully bought out the company. Match Group grew its average subscriber base by 40.5% to 5.2 million for quarter 2.
2020: In January, Mandy Ginsberg stepped down as chief executive officer due to personal reasons. In March, Match Group became the first tech company to support the Earn It Act of 2020, a bipartisan bill with the support of President Trump to combat online child sexual exploitation but widely criticized for its predicted negative impact on privacy and computer security. In September, Match Group joined other companies like Spotify and Epic Games to form the Coalition for App Fairness. Match Group saw strong first-time subscriber growth.
2021: In February, Match Group took legal action against dating app Muzmatch, the online Muslim dating app, calling the app a "Tinder Clone". Match Group shared its first-quarter earnings: Match Group’s stock rose after details of its first-quarter earnings report were announced. Expects revenue of $2.75 billion to $2.85 billion.
