History

MRI was founded in 1956 as the Research Institute for Economic Affairs. Since its founding, MRI has continued to make significant contributions to Japan's political, economic, and industrial policies. In 1978, the company changed its name to Mitsubishi Research Institute, and in 1998, it became a subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Corporation. As of 2021, MRI is the largest of the Mitsubishi Group research institutes.
