Nilesh Solanki has been involved in community and civic activities since the early stages of his adult life. In 1991, while attending university, he was among the founding members of the National Hindu Students Forum UK (NHSF UK), a national organisation established to support Hindu students in higher education and encourage civic participation among young British Hindus. The organisation subsequently expanded across universities throughout the United Kingdom and remains active more than three decades after its formation.
His professional career developed primarily within the technology and consulting sector. Solanki spent over 20 years at PwC UK, where he held digital transformation and technology-related leadership roles. During this period, he helped organisations adapt to changing technological environments, focusing on transformation programmes, digital infrastructure, and emerging technologies. His experience spanned both technical and organisational dimensions of change management. Following his career at PwC, he established himself as an independent consultant specialising in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and digital infrastructure.
While working within the corporate sector, Solanki remained actively engaged in community initiatives. More than twenty-four years ago, he founded the PwC Hindu Network, becoming one of the first individuals to establish a Hindu employee network within a major City institution in the United Kingdom. The network was created to provide cultural representation, mentoring opportunities, professional support, and educational engagement for employees. It has continued to operate for more than two decades and remains active across multiple PwC offices.
Solanki has also maintained a long-standing association with the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh UK (HSS UK), with over forty-five years of involvement in programmes centred on community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. Through this work, he participated in outreach activities involving local authorities, emergency services, educational institutions, and public representatives.
His community leadership expanded significantly through the establishment of Action for Harmony (A4H), which he co-founded alongside Nitin Palan MBE. The organisation was created to improve cooperation and coordination among Hindu organisations across the United Kingdom. Under its framework, more than 200 organisations joined a collaborative network addressing issues such as education, safeguarding, political engagement, community representation, cultural awareness, and social cohesion. One of the most significant initiatives associated with A4H was the Harmony Conference 2025, which brought together more than 240 community leaders from 120 organisations representing 100 towns and cities across the United Kingdom. The conference included workshops, consultations, and discussions relating to identity, civic participation, safeguarding, education, and community development.
Beyond organisational leadership, Solanki has been involved in national civic initiatives and public events. In 2015, he served as Head of Operations for the large-scale event at Wembley Stadium attended by approximately 60,000 people during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United Kingdom. In 2024, he helped organise and co-lead the "In Conversation with British Hindu Community" event in Parliament, bringing together community representatives and Members of Parliament to discuss issues affecting British Hindus. He has also served as a STEM Ambassador, delivering educational presentations and assemblies focused on technology, leadership, and career development.
A substantial portion of Solanki's recent work has focused on charitable governance and humanitarian service through Sewa International UK. He became a Trustee and Assistant General Secretary in 2021. In these roles, he has contributed to strategic fundraising, donor engagement, governance oversight, corporate partnerships, compliance, and international representation. During his tenure, Sewa UK has supported a range of programmes spanning education, healthcare, disability support, community development, and disaster relief.
Among the initiatives associated with his leadership are the Cochlea Pune project, which provides rehabilitation and support services for more than 125 hearing-impaired children; educational programmes supporting 1,039 children in Sri Lanka; rural healthcare outreach through Medics4Sewa; the Knowledge on Wheels mobile science laboratory initiative in Assam; Youth4Sewa leadership programmes; and infrastructure and education projects serving tribal communities in Rajasthan through Project D.R.E.A.M. He has also been involved in governance oversight for several forthcoming development projects, including Sakshama Bhavan in Kerala, Dheemahi Centre in Madurai, Anandalyay Bhawan in Assam, and Project Ekvira in Akola.
One of the most notable fundraising initiatives associated with Solanki is the Rickshaw Run programme. The initiative involves teams travelling across India in three-wheeled motorised rickshaws while raising funds for social development projects. Campaigns conducted in 2019 and 2023 collectively raised more than £1.2 million. Funds generated through these efforts supported educational, healthcare, and community service initiatives, including the provision of vehicles and equipment for charitable programmes operating across India.
In addition to his role with Sewa International UK, Solanki joined the Board of Trustees of Lepra UK in 2024. Lepra is an international health and development charity working primarily in India and Bangladesh to address leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, and other neglected tropical diseases. As a trustee, he contributes to strategic governance and serves on committees responsible for fundraising, communications, finance, and risk oversight. He has also supported efforts to strengthen engagement between Lepra and British Indian communities.
Alongside his professional and voluntary activities, Solanki has pursued endurance running to support charitable causes. At the age of fifty, he undertook the "50 at 50" challenge, completing fifty half marathons in fifty consecutive weeks while raising funds for charitable organisations. He has completed nine full marathons, including the London Marathon and Tokyo Marathon, and has regularly linked athletic challenges to fundraising and awareness campaigns. In 2025, he also completed a Himalayan trek reaching elevations of approximately 15,000 feet.
Throughout his career, Solanki has combined professional leadership, charitable governance, community organisation, and public engagement. His work has focused on building partnerships across sectors, supporting humanitarian programmes, encouraging civic participation, and strengthening collaboration among community organisations in the United Kingdom and internationally.
