Summary

The Nordic fashion and textile industry shares a unique design heritage and craftsmanship tradition, which holds potential for competitive advantages and economic growth. Through the Nordic Fashion Association, ten Nordic fashion organisations aim to intensify the strategic cooperation across regional and organisational boundaries to harness the added value of collaborative action.

History

Nordic Fashion Association was inaugurated in 2008 by five Nordic fashion organisations with the core purpose of gathering the Nordic fashion industry and collectively embarking on the process of working with, and implementing principles for sustainable fashion

Realising the benefits of pooled resources and based on the accumulated experiences, the association is committed to unifying the Nordic fashion industry beyond a sole focus on sustainability to include collaborative export initiatives, joint international positioning and new business models. New partners dedicated to accelerate the Nordic fashion industry include Sustainable Fashion Academy, Norwegian Fashion Institute, Finatex, TEKO Sweden and Swedish Trade Federation.

Per the official website: “Norwegian Fashion Hub, the fashion cluster of Norway, is the newly appointed Secretariat for the Nordic Fashion Association. ‘The objective is to further strengthen the Nordic Fashion Association, to create a larger network and wider platform for developing and promoting Nordic design,’ says Gisle Mariani Mardal, the Chairman of Nordic Fashion Association.”

Nordic Initiative, Clean and Ethical- a project launched by the association in 2009- focuses on sustainable fashion and works towards developing a strong Nordic fashion organisation devoted to competence building and global positioning. Nordic Fashion Association also aims to define a number of strongholds and objectives to inspire a new vision for the Nordic fashion industry and the Nordic region.
