Summary
History
Palestine Islamic Bank (PIB) was the first Islamic financial institution founded in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1977. The idea of establishing a Sharia-compliant bank was prompted by the dissatisfaction of local citizens with the more conventional banking landscape. The Bank received its charter from the Central Bank of Palestine (CBP), which set the standards for the financial, technical, legal and capital requirements needed for operation. Over the course of its growth, PIB has become the market leader in Islamic banking in Palestine.
