Biography

Prof. Aharon Palmon was born in Israel. His academic journey began at the prestigious Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he pursued his undergraduate studies in dental medicine. He received his DMD diploma in 1988, demonstrating early on a keen interest in the intersection of dental science and broader medical research. Eager to delve deeper into the scientific underpinnings of cellular biology, Prof. Palmon continued his education at the same institution and completed his Ph.D. in Cellular Biology in 1991.

Following the completion of his doctorate, Prof. Palmon undertook a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the renowned Weizmann Institute of Science. This period was instrumental in honing his research skills and expanding his scientific horizons. In 1993, he returned to the Hebrew University, joining the Institute of Dental Sciences as a faculty member.

Prof. Palmon has made significant contributions to the field of dental science and diagnostic research. His pioneering work focuses on the diagnostic potential of Oral Fluids (OF) for detecting both local and systemic diseases. The advantages of using OF over traditional serum include ease of collection, storage, and shipping, as well as cost-effectiveness. The non-invasive collection techniques reduce patient anxiety and discomfort, making it feasible to procure repeated samples for longitudinal monitoring.

His research has garnered substantial support from various prestigious agencies, including the Israeli Science Foundation, the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation, the German-Israel Science Foundation, the Ministry of Science, and the Ministry of Health. This funding has facilitated numerous groundbreaking studies and advancements in the field.

Prof. Palmon's innovative spirit led to the founding of Salignostics, a spin-off company from the Hebrew University. Salignostics aims to translate the knowledge gained from his research on Oral Fluids into practical, home-use rapid diagnostic tests. This venture signifies his commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world applications, enhancing public health through accessible diagnostic solutions.

Currently, Prof. Aharon Palmon serves as the Vice President for Research and Development at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In this capacity, he oversees the university's research initiatives, fostering an environment of innovation and scientific excellence. His leadership is instrumental in guiding the institution's research agenda, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and securing funding for various projects.

Throughout his illustrious career, Prof. Palmon has authored numerous publications in esteemed scientific journals. His work has been widely cited, reflecting its impact and significance in the scientific community. His research papers cover a broad range of topics, including the diagnostic potential of Oral Fluids, cellular biology, and dental science.
