Biography

Safuan Zairi is an important leader in Malaysia’s technology and innovation fields, known for his work in technology commercialisation and digital transformation.  With over 20 years of experience, Safuan has been influential in shaping Malaysia’s tech scene, driving national programmes and building partnerships to support innovation and entrepreneurship.

Safuan’s educational journey began with a focus on law and business. He earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from RMIT University in Australia. This education gave him a solid mix of legal and business skills, which were crucial for his future career in the tech industry.

He started his career at HeiTech Padu Berhad, working as the Head of Investee Companies & Investor Relations from 1999 to 2005. In this role, Safuan managed relationships with investors and supported companies that received investments, gaining valuable experience in business and finance.

After leaving HeiTech Padu, Safuan joined Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in 2006. Over the years, he held several important positions, including Head of Shared Services and Outsourcing Department, and later, Chief of Staff for the Enterprise Growth Accelerator and DroneTech Lead. His work at MDEC involved promoting the digital economy, supporting startups, and leading projects in new technology areas like DroneTech, AgriTech, and HealthTech. Safuan’s efforts at MDEC were crucial in driving Malaysia’s digital progress and strengthening its position in the digital economy.

In 2020, Safuan moved to a Senior Vice President role at MDEC, where he continued to support and grow the digital economy. His leadership during this time was important for the success of various digital programmes and strategic projects. This role prepared him for his current position.

In November 2021, Safuan became the Chief Ecosystem Officer at MRANTI. In this role, he is responsible for creating and managing national programmes that support technology development and innovation. He builds partnerships, oversees important projects, and helps the technology sector in Malaysia grow. Under his guidance, MRANTI has made significant progress in improving the tech ecosystem and encouraging digital innovation.
