SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), a private deemed university located in Mumbai, was established in 1981 by the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM). Initially, NMIMS offered a two-year full-time master's programme in management studies from a modest setup above Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle, starting with 40 students, four full-time faculty members, and a library of 3,162 books.

Over the years, NMIMS has grown significantly in both scope and reputation. By 2003, it achieved deemed university status under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of 1956, enabling it to offer a diverse array of programmes across various disciplines. The highest packages for MBA Core and MBA HR were INR 67.80 LPA and INR 25.95 LPA, respectively, with average packages of INR 26.63 LPA and INR 19.56 LPA. MBA Tech students received a highest package of INR 22.40 LPA and an average of INR 10.55 LPA. MSc Economics and BSc Economics placements saw participation from 27 and 95 companies, respectively, with top recruiters including Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and CRISIL, reflecting strong industry integration and employment prospects for graduates.
