History

Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, located in Porur, Chennai, traces its roots back to 1985 when it was established as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute by the Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust. The institution was conceived with a vision to serve society as a centre of excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare. Under the leadership of Late Shri. N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar, the Founder & Managing Trustee of the Trust, and the first Chancellor of the Deemed University, the institute embarked on a journey towards academic distinction.

In September 1994, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute was granted Deemed University status by the Government of India under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. This marked a significant milestone in its evolution, allowing it to expand its academic horizons and contribute more comprehensively to the field of health sciences. Subsequently, the institution changed its nomenclature to Sri Ramachandra University in 2006, only to revert to SRMC&RI (DU) in December 2017. However, the latest transformation came in August 2018, when the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, officially renamed it Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University).

Over the past three decades, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research has emerged as a premier destination for education and research in health sciences. With twelve faculties or constituent colleges, including Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Nursing, among others, the university offers a comprehensive array of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. These programmes cater to the diverse needs of students aspiring to pursue careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceuticals, nursing, physiotherapy, allied health sciences, management, engineering, and more.

Courses

Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research offers an extensive range of courses spanning various disciplines within the field of health sciences. With twelve faculties or constituent colleges, the institution provides over 150 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes tailored to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry. The Faculty of Medicine offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in medicine, surgery, and allied specialities, providing comprehensive training in clinical practice, patient care, and medical research.
