Star Health and Allied Insurance Company was established in 2006, becoming India’s first standalone health insurer. The company was launched as a joint venture between the Oman Insurance Company, the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, the Apollo Hospitals Group and companies within the Inyan Group. The insurer was approved as a health insurance business unit by the IRDAI in 2006, and received its license in 2007.
