Starent Networks Corporation was a United States based telecommunications vendor supplying products to mobile network operators and Internet service providers. It was headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cisco after its acquisition in 2009.

History

Founded in 2000, Starent Networks began as a developer of media gateway technology. In 2001, it secured its first two mobile network operator customers, and launched its first product in 2002. During the following seven years, Starent maintained a record of rapid growth and by 2009 it was providing 3G gateway products to over 72 service providers in over 42 countries. In 2009, Starent was acquired by Cisco Systems and the integration process was completed shortly afterwards.

Mission

Starent Networks was focused on the mobile media gateway business, which was a technology designed to make the interconnection between wireless mobile networks and IP-based networks such as the Internet.

Vision

Starent Networks’ vision was to develop technologies for mobile operators that allowed for easy and cost-effective interconnection between mobile networks and IP-based network systems.
