Stifel was founded in 1890 by former school teacher and securities salesman, Benjamin Stifel. The company was founded as an investment banking and brokerage business and has expanded over the years to provide a variety of financial services. Stifel has completed prominent acquisitions throughout its history including EF Hutton, Legg Mason and Knight Capital Group.
