Summary

Jaipur-based fashion designer Swati Vijayvargie graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology with a degree in Fashion Design and worked with iconic fashion designers Raghavendra Rathore and Kavita Bhartiya before launching her own luxury label. She is recognised for her endeavours to uplift the rural weavers and craftspeople of Rajasthan.

History

Swati Vijayvargie graduated rom the National Institute of Fashion Technology with a degree in Fashion Design and worked with iconic fashion designers Raghavendra Rathore and Kavita Bhartiya to hone her skill set.

The young girl began her career by joining her family business of home textiles and rugs for which she received Best Woman Entrepreneur from the Federation of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters. This gave her the confidence to further explore the rich heritage of Indian crafts and textiles and work with a number of dyers, printers, weavers and embroiders from the state of Rajasthan. Since, her love for garments inspired her to launch her own womenswear label- Rang by Swati Vijaivargie- in 2010.

Swati’s forte includes the art of thread-resist shibori patterns, screen block printing, surface textures using tie-dye and hand embroideries. Creating her own textiles was an asset when Swati decided to specialize in thread-resist Shibori patterns and creating surface textures using different tie-dye and embroidery techniques on pure fabrics to make clean, minimal garments with a fresh look and international appeal.

“We are born from a mix of contemporary, aesthetic and functional. Every ensemble is a representation of what we stand for. Clothes aren’t just an article, they tell a tale” reveals a note on her official website. "She is inspired to continue this story, preserve our history and leave a mark on the world. Sentimental yet modern, the silhouettes enunciate the shifting impact of rhythm. She brings you everyday lived couture."

The label retails with prestigious multi-designer boutiques like Aza , Ogaan, Elan, Collage and Aura to name a few. And her designs have been acknowledged and appreciated in international fairs like Heimtextil in Frankfurt and Domotex in Hannover.

Mission

To bring craftspeople, weavers and artisans from remote corners of the state of Rajasthan out of the poverty line by employing them to craft her collections. in this way, the fashion designer promotes craftspeople and gives them opportunities. She hopes her endeavours gives them a better market, sustainable income and a better livelihood.

Vision

Swati Vijaivargie envisions a modern design aesthetic handcrafted with love. She hopes all fashion designers support traditional craftspeople by bringing together essential components such as culture and creativity, skill, capital, technical assistance and marketing before many fine textile crafts and skills are lost forever. Swati Vijaivargie feels that since the dawn of civilisation, art and crafts have been sources of income and livelihoods for many fine artisans and weaving particularly is an age-old vocation. Through design, it is her intention to sensitise and demonstrate the skills and expertise of local artisans.
