Torrid began as a subsidiary of Hot Topic, a popular clothing, footwear, and accessories retailer. Torrid was created in 2001 with the mission of creating clothing for teen and young adult women who wear plus sizes. The company opened its first store in the Brea Mall in Brea, California in 2001. Over the years the company has grown to over 700 stores across the United States and Canada. Torrid has become one of the most recognized plus size clothing retailers in the United States.
