Venustech was founded in 1999 by Chinese entrepreneur Yao Jinyang. Its initial focus was on providing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and cryptographic software for the domestic market. In 2001, Venustech became the first security company in mainland China to acquire international ISO 9000 certification. The company expanded further in the 2000s, offering encryption products and services to customers in Asia, the United States, and Europe. In 2007, Venustech launched its Unified Threat Management (UTM) product, which quickly became one of the most popular security products in the Chinese market.
