Vopak was founded in 1616 when the Van der Lee family signed a contract with the Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) for building warehouses to store their goods. The Van der Lee family continued to expand their business and by the 19th century, Vopak had become the world's leading independent tank storage company. Today, Vopak is one of the largest tank storage providers with an international network of terminals.
