History

Voya Financial was founded in 1989 as ING Group, which stands for Internationale Nederlanden Groep. In 2013, ING announced plans to separate its life and retirement business, creating the independent publicly traded company known as Voya Financial. The name Voya is derived from the Latin phrase “voyage of life.”
